Who is Mariza Rizou?
Mariza Rizou is a popular Greek singer known for her captivating voice and dynamic stage presence. With a career spanning several decades, she has become a beloved figure in the Greek music scene. Mariza is renowned for her versatility, effortlessly transitioning between different musical genres, including traditional Greek music, pop, and folk.
She first became well known through a cover of ‘Η Μπόσα Νόβα του Ησαΐα’ (en. The bossa nova of Isaiah) by another famous Greek singer and songwriter, Fivos Delivorias. Following that, she has written a lot of her own songs, both lyrics and music, exploring different sounds and slowly but steadily defining her own, characteristic style.
Mariza was always into music but didn’t immediately find her way into the Greek music scene: before becoming a full time singer and songwriter, she worked for a publishing house as well as a marketing agency.
Her first album, Γλυκό Πρωί (Glyko Proi, en. Sweet morning), came out in 2014 and was quickly followed by Μεγάλη Γιορτή (Meyali Yiorti, en. Big Celebration) in 2016 and Πόσο Βλάκας (Poso Vlakas, en. What an Idiot) in 2019.
In between albums, Mariza has released numerous singles both alone as well as together with other well-known artists, performed countless shows in Greece and abroad, and even wrote music for a 2017 theatre production, Μαντάμ Σουσού.

Over the last few months, we have been taking a lot of walks with the Omilo students, which is why her song ‘Πάμε μια βόλτα’ (Pame Mia Volta, en. Let’s go for a walk) resonated with us.
