The Omilo song(s)!

Finding the Omilo Song; Over the years, we often wondered whether Omilo should have its own  song.

But how could we possibly choose one?

Greek music offers such an incredible variety of styles, singers and composers that choosing just one song to represent Omilo always seemed impossible.

At Omilo, we dance to traditional Greek music, go to concerts of entechno, rebetiko and laiko, and organise presentations about Greek singers and composers from many different periods and styles.

There is always something new to discover. You simply never get bored with Greek music.

In 2026, Maya and Dimitris are celebrating 30 years of Omilo, and we are delighted that so many students have been sending us their feedback, memories and personal reflections.

Syros island and amazing Hermoupolis

Syros island and its elegant capital, Hermoupolis, hold a special place in the hearts of our teachers and students.
Every summer since 2005, Omilo has been organizing Greek Language and Culture Courses on this beautiful Cycladic island, creating unforgettable experiences of learning, fun, friendship, and discovery.

Over the years, Syros has become much more than a course destination!
It feels like a second home to the Omilo team and to many students who return again and again.

We are very happy to be able to celebrate “30 Years of Omilo” in Syros in 2026.

Greek Orthodox Easter is probably the biggest celebration of the year for most Greeks, with a lot of special traditions and family gatherings.
It is also one of the reasons Omilo organizes every year a Greek Easter course.
For 26 years in a row, the Omilo-team is celebrating Easter together with students (except of the “covid years  in 2020 and 2021”).

A popular traditional Greek dance ; The Kalamatianos

A popular traditional Greek dance is the “Kalamatianos”, which you can see or dance at every happy occasion in Greece (such as weddings,  celebrations, Easter Sunday, etc.). Also during the Omilo Greek Language and Culture courses, students are introduced to some Greek dancing steps, and practice the kalamatianos.
