Learn the useful verb “I need” in Greek, as well as useful sentences

This is useful verb, which you probably also will need, while holidaying or living in Greece .

This verb is conjugated like the verb
έρχομαι, which means I come,
or
πλένομαι, I wash myself, a

Let’s conjugate the verb  «χρειάζομαι»   in the present tense.

 

Εγώ                       χρειάζ-ομαι

Εσύ                       χρειάζ-εσαι

Αυτός,ή,ό            χρειάζ-εται

Εμείς                    χρειαζ-όμαστε

Εσείς                    χρειαζ-όσαστε / χρειάζ-εστε

Αυτοί,ές,ά           χρειάζ-ονται

 

So if you are planning to go to the super market, you might ask your friend
“Πάω στο σούπερ μάρκετ. Χρειάζεσαι κάτι;»      “I am going to the super market. Do you need anything?”

Ιf you are looking around in a shop, somebody will probably ask you
“Χρειάζεστε βοήθεια;»        “Do you need any help?”

Or here is also some good advice;
“Το σώμα μας χρειάζεται φρούτα και λαχανικά»    “Our body needs fruit and vegetables”.

More examples

 

To χρειάζομαι  –   I need it

Or

Δεν to χρειάζομαι – I do not need it

Or,…..

“Σε χρειάζομαι»,  –  “I need you”.

OR

Tov χρειάζομαι  “ I need him”

 

Or maybe you do not need anybody, but you just need to rest? Then you can say;

Χρειάζομαι υπνο – ξεκούραση – I need sleep – relaxation

 

Important ! we use the verb many times in the 3rd person

 “χρειάζεται» , followed by ..να  –   “ it is necessary – you/he/we/they.. need to..”.

Here some examples;

Χρειάζεται να πίνεις πολύ νερό  –  “you need to drink a lot of water/ it is necessary to drink a lot of water

Χρειάζεται να εμβολιαστείτε  –   it is necessary to get vaccinated

Όλα θα πάνε καλά,  δε χρειάζεται να ανησυχείς»   – everything is going to be ok, you don’t need to worry/ it isn’t necessary to worry

 

The Conjugation of this verb in Future Simple

If it is too advanced for you, do not worry…you can learn it later, but if you are already familiar with those kind of verbs,  then take a look at the future tense as well.

 

Εγώ                       θα χρειαστ-ώ

Εσύ                       θα χρειαστ-είς

Αυτός,ή,ό            θα χρειαστ-εί

Εμείς                    θα χρειαστ-ούμε

Εσείς                    θα χρειαστ-είτε

Αυτοί,ές,ά           θα χρειαστ-ούν

 

Θα χρειαστώ 10 λεπτά ακόμα» –  I will need 10 more minutes

(Of course, you can also use the present tense; Χρειάζομαι 10 λεπτά ακόμα..  it has the same meaning)

“Ό,τι χρειαστείς, θα είμαι εδώ για εσένα»,  –  “anything you need, I will be here for you”

( you can also use the present tense, ; Ό,τι χρειάζεσαι, θα είμαι εδώ για εσένα.}
