Introduction
Omilo was founded in 1996 by Maya and Dimitris Andreadis, and the very first Omilo Greek Language and Culture Course took place in the village of Nea Makri, Attiki, in July 1997.
Sophia was the first teacher at Omilo, and was teaching several courses during 1997 and 1998.

Λοιπόν, Σοφία, βρισκόμαστε στο 1997 στη Νέα Μάκρη.
Και ξεκινάμε μαθήματα.
Ήσουνα εσύ…
Well, Sophia, we’re in 1997 in Nea Makri.
And we’re starting classes.
It was you…
Sophia
Και η Ντίνα.
And Dina.
Dimitris
Και η Ντίνα. Πολύ σωστά!
And Dina. That’s right.
Κι είχαμε μια ομάδα μαθητών…
And we had a group of students…
Πόσα επίπεδα ήταν τότε;
How many levels [language levels] did we have then?
Sophia
Ήτανε δύο.
There were two levels
.
Dimitris
Σε εκείνη τη διοργάνωση ήτανε δύο επίπεδα.
In that course, there were two levels.
Sophia
Έτσι. Δύο επίπεδα, δύο τμήματα.
Exactly. Two levels, so two classes.
Το ένα το είχα εγώ και το άλλο η Ντίνα.
I was teaching the one and Dina was teaching the other.
Dimitris
Τέλεια!
Perfect!
Μαθήματα, λοιπόν, τη μισή μέρα…
So, we gave lessons during the first half of the day…
Sophia
Βέβαια. Ξεκινούσαμε το πρωί.
Of course. We started in the mornings.
Εγώ θυμάμαι έφευγα πρωί πρωί από το σπίτι μου…
I remember leaving my house very early in the morning…
γιατί ούτε εγώ έμενα ούτε κι η Ντίνα έμενε στο ξενοδοχείο όπως εσείς.
because neither I or Dina stayed at the hotel like you did [Maya & Dimitris].
Dimitris
Σωστά. Εμείς μέναμε στο ξενοδοχείο κάτω.
That’s right. We stayed at the hotel.
Sophia
Έτσι. Με όλους τους μαθητές.
Exactly. Together with all the students.
Λοιπόν, εμείς ερχόμασταν το πρωί και τελειώναμε το μεσημέρι.
Well, we (teachers) would come in the morning and finish [the lessons] at noon.
Dimitris
Και εμείς συνεχίζαμε μετά το μεσημέρι με δραστηριότητες.
And then we continued in the afternoon with different activities.
Sophia
Το φαγητό σας δίπλα στην πισίνα.
You would take your meals by the pool.
Θυμάμαι και μια ταβερνούλα πάρα πολύ ωραία.
I remember also a really nice tavern nearby.
Dimitris
Βεβαίως. Μια παλιά ταβέρνα…
Of course. An old tavern…
Sophia
Μπροστά στη θάλασσα!
at the seafront!
Dimitris
Τέλεια! Με το χαλίκι και τα πεύκα!
Exactly! With its small pebbles and the pine trees!
Sophia
Εσείς καθόσασταν μέχρι το βράδυ και κάνατε και τις βόλτες σας.
You stayed until the evening and went out.
Dimitris
Θυμάμαι είχαμε κάνει δραστηριότητες με ποδήλατα σε όλη την περιοχή.
I remember that we did activities cycling around the entire area.
Sophia
Αξέχαστες διαδρομές!
Such unforgettable trips!
Dimitris
Ναι ναι, πολύ ωραία! Είχαμε πάει στην Άνδρο, θυμάσαι;
Yes yes, it was lovely! We went to Andros, do you remember?
Sophia
Σωστά! Τι ωραία εκδρομή ήταν αυτή!
True! It was such a great day-trip!
Τι ωραία! Θυμάμαι στο πλοίο για να περάσουμε και την ώρα μας ευχάριστα…
Oh, it was so nice indeed! I remember that in order to make the journey with the ferry more fun…
είχαμε αρχίσει το τραγούδι,
we started singing,
παίζαμε κάτι παιχνίδια…
we were playing games…
Πω πω, τι ωραία που ήταν! Σαν μικρά παιδιά κάναμε!
Oh my, it was so lovely! We were like little kids!
Dimitris
Κανονικά! Σχολικές εκδρομές!
Truly! Like a school trip!
Στην Άνδρο, λοιπόν, εκδρομές, πηγαίναμε Αίγινα…
[We went] to Andros, we did day-trips, we went to Aegina…
Sophia
Ναι! Και, θυμάμαι, είχαμε πάει στην Αίγινα…
Yes! And, I can remember, we went to Aegina…
γιατί θέλαμε να επισκεφθούμε τον ναό της Αφαίας.
because we wanted to visit the temple of Aphaia.
Dimitris
Βεβαίως! Εξαιρετικό μέρος. Πάρα πολύ ωραίο μέρος.
Of course! Amazing place. Very nice place.
Και πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα εκδρομή αυτή.
And it was such an interesting excursion.
Νομίζω κάναμε κι άλλες εκδρομές. Είχαμε πάει στους Δελφούς, βεβαίως.
I think we did more day trips. We went to Delphi, of course.
Sophia
Έτσι. Για να δούμε και τον εκεί Ναό του Απόλλωνα, με το θέατρο, με το στάδιο.
Exactly. To see the Temple of Apollo [that was] there, with the theater, with the stadium.
Dimitris
Και, βέβαια, πέρα από όλα αυτά, είχαμε και δραστηριότητες στην Αθήνα.
And, of course, apart from all this, we also organized activities in Athens.
Sophia
Μπράβο! Στο κέντρο της Αθήνας. Κάτι συναυλίες…
Well done! [for remembering] In the center of Athens. [We went] to a few concerts…
Dimitris
Ναι. Συναυλίες στο Ηρώδειο, συναυλίες σε άλλα θέατρα…
Yes. [Some of the] concerts took place in the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, some in other locations…
Sophia
Πράγματι. Εγώ δεν μπορούσα να παρακολουθήσω όλες σας τις δραστηριότητες.
Indeed. I really couldn’t keep up with all the activities you organized.
Αλλά θυμάμαι χαρακτηριστικά την Άνδρο και τους Δελφούς.
But I remember [the daytrips to] Andros and Delphi very well.
Δε θα τα ξεχάσω!
I’ll never forget them!
Κι εκείνη την ποδηλατάδα!
And that bike ride!
Την ποδηλατάδα την αξέχαστη! Όλοι στη σειρά με τα ποδήλατα.
The bike ride was unforgettable! Everybody was cycling one after the other, in a row.
Ήταν απίθανα!
It was amazing!
Dimitris
Ναι, ήταν μια περίοδος πολύ έντονων δραστηριοτήτων, αλλά περνούσαμε πολύ καλά.
Yes, it was a busy period with all the activities, but we were having such a great time.
Και, βεβαίως, ήταν και 25 χρόνια πριν!
And, of course, it was 25 years ago!
Που όλα αυτά μας φαίνονται τώρα ότι είναι παρελθόν, αλλά εμείς συνεχίσαμε παρ’ όλα αυτά!
And now all this seems to us like old history, but we continued doing them nevertheless!
Dimitris
Όλα αυτά τα χρόνια να κάνουμε όλες αυτές τις ιστορίες!
Create all these memories during all these years!
