Celebrating 30 Years of Omilo: Reflections from Our Students

In 2026, Maya and Dimitris are celebrating 30 years of Omilo, and we are delighted that so many students have been sending us their feedback, memories and personal reflections.

Reading these messages means a great deal to us.
They make us extremely happy, bring back many wonderful memories, and, most importantly, give us fresh motivation to continue doing what we love.

Below, we are happy to share some reflections sent to us in September 2026
by
Elke from Germany, Chantal from Canada, and Marina from Italy.

Some shorter reflections are also mentioned at this page;

Reflections to Omilo’s anniversary
Sent by Elke, September 2026

20 years in love with Omilo !
At my birthday party, my friends raised money because they knew that I
wanted to fulfill my wish: a language course in Greece.

So in September 2006, I set off for the Omilo course on the island of Syros.
I immediately fell in love with the concept and the team, so other intensive courses
followed – 2008 Nafplio, 2010 Syros, 2016 Lefkada,
2021 Online Cultural Event, and other online lessons.

20 years friendship Chantal and Elke
An essential ingredient in Omilo’s recipe for success, is the diversity
of participants in each course. People of all ages and from many different countries. The participants bring
with them another ingredient: their love for Greece. At Omilo, course participants become friends who
share a passion. In 2006 a Canadian-German friendship was born out of a common love for Greece. Since
then, we have been in touch every week, we have made 16 trips together, including 8 to Greece.

30 years Omilo –
During all these years, you have maintained your excellent quality, have not lost your
positive spirit and have created a unique atmosphere for many course participants.
Thank you to the Omilo team! For your kindness. For competent teaching. For introducing us to Greek culture. For creating an
environment in which special friendships can develop – friendships with Greece and with other people.
Your philanthropy is an important contribution to making the world a better place, especially today.

How to celebrate
This year Chantal will come to Greece to take part in the 10km Athens Authentic Marathon to celebrate her 60th birthday
and all the anniversaries mentioned above, with this achievement!
I’ll be there to cheer her on and watch her cross the finish line at the Panathenaic Stadium! Afterwards we
will travel around to celebrate our 20 years of friendship, knowing that we owe it to you, Omilo!
We are so grateful.

Maya, Dimitris and the Omilo team, from the bottom of our hearts: our best wishes for your 30th birthday!
Chantal & Elke

Marina (Italy)

Dear Maya and Dimitri, dear Omilô-Team!

I just want to say  a truly heartfelt thank you  for creating 30 years of Omilô and for all the wonderful experiences I’ve been able to have and share with all of you until now.

It really means a lot to me to have been part of this special community, and I’m very grateful for everything I’ve learned, experienced and shared with you.

I have been fortunate to be at your school nine times in different locations.
Each place is unique, but the spirit is always the same, it always feels like coming back to somewhere familiar and welcoming.

What I enjoy most learning Greek at Omilô is learning surrounded by wonderful people and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, it truly feels like coming home.

Also, Greek is never just grammar or vocabulary. It is part of everyday life: in cafés, in the streets, in real conversations. That makes learning natural, easy and genuinely exciting.

I especially loved the small groups and personal atmosphere. I quickly felt part of the school community.
The Omilo teachers  are fantastic: warm, enthusiastic and always approachable, they soon feel more like friends than teachers.

Equally special were the shared moments outside the classroom:
city walks, events, dancing, and dinners together. These experiences created real connection and lasting memories.

A big compliment to the school management: you, Maya and Dimitri, have created something truly special,
a perfect balance of professionalism and a relaxed, welcoming spirit. Everything feels personal, never forced, and full of warmth.

Would I come back?
Absolutely. Without hesitation, I already look forward to it.

The best thing about my experience at this school was…
…that I never felt like I was just attending a course. I felt happy, connected and part of something real.

So please: keep the spirit of the school, keep the groups small, and stay exactly as you are! It is something truly special.

Sincerely , Marina R.

What do we mean by the “Omilo Team”?

Many students warmly refer to the “Omilo team” or “Omilo-teachers”.
Of course, over the past 30 years, Maya and Dimitris have formed different teams of teachers.
And especially during the last five years, the teams have changed more frequently than they did in the earlier years.
Maya also talked about this during the  four ” 30th-Omilo -anniversary presentation and celebrations”, which took place on Syros island in 2026.

So, whenever we read kind words about the “Omilo team,” ,
we think of all the wonderful teachers who have been part of Omilo over the years.
And there have been many! 🙂

To all our students and teachers, past and present:
we couldn’t have reached this milestone without you. Thank you!

Maya & Dimitris

We always love hearing your personal Omilo story.

If you feel inspired to share your experience with us, we’d be delighted to hear from you!

Simply write to info@omilo.com (your message will be answered by Maya or Dimitris),
or consider sharing your experience in an online review.

Your story can help future students get a genuine impression of what it is like to learn Greek with Omilo
and, in a world where online reviews matter more and more,
it also helps a small school like ours remain visible and continue welcoming students for many years to come.

Thank you for being part of the Omilo story!
