About the course

Your Greek language adventure begins on the indicated arrival date, Sunday, when the Omilo team welcomes you to our Syros school, located at the Echo House in the seaside village of Azolimnos, just 4 km from Ermoupolis, the island’s capital.

The welcome meeting takes place at 19:00 or 20:00 (the exact time will be confirmed three weeks before your course). You’ll meet your Greek teachers and fellow students, learn more about the course programme and hear about cultural events, concerts and theatre performances taking place on Syros.

Afterwards, everyone is invited to a welcome dinner at a traditional Greek taverna in Azolimnos, included in the course price. It’s a wonderful opportunity to taste delicious Greek food, get to know your classmates and start your first Greek conversations in a relaxed atmosphere!

Greek lessons and your weekly schedule

Your Greek classes begin on Monday morning. On the first day, you’ll take a short placement test to help our teachers find the most suitable group for your language level, from beginner to advanced. All course materials are provided and included in the course price.
During the two weeks, you’ll enjoy 10 days of intensive Greek lessons, with an emphasis on speaking, listening and communicating confidently in everyday situations.

  • First week: Classes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • Second week: Classes from Tuesday to Friday.
  • Free days: The first Thursday and the second Monday, with no scheduled lessons.

These two free days give you the chance to explore Syros at your own pace. Wander through the beautiful streets of Ermoupolis and Ano Syros, discover picturesque villages, enjoy the island’s beaches or even take a day trip to the neighbouring Cycladic islands of Tinos or Mykonos.

Group Information: Absolute Beginners and Beginners 1

New to Greek? Start speaking with confidence!

If you’re taking your first steps in learning Greek, our Absolute Beginners and Beginners 1 classes offer a friendly and supportive introduction to the language.

To help every student participate actively and receive plenty of personal guidance, we keep beginner groups small, with a maximum of 4 students per class. This creates a relaxed atmosphere where you can ask questions, practise speaking and gradually become more comfortable using Greek.

Lesson Times and Group Sizes

Beginner classes take place in the afternoon, between 15:00 and 18:00.

  • Included in the course fee: 30 hours of Greek lessons and all the cultural and social activities mentioned above. These activities take place after 19:00, so you can easily join in, practise your Greek and get to know fellow participants from other language levels.

  • 2–4 students: 3 hours of Greek lessons per day
1 student: 2 hours of individual lessons per day
The course price is the same, regardless of the number of students in your group.

Why do we offer shorter lessons for beginners?

Learning a new language, especially one with a different alphabet, takes time and concentration. During your first Greek lessons, you’ll be introduced to new words, pronunciation, basic grammar and everyday expressions.

From our years of experience teaching Greek to international students, we’ve learned that 3 hours of lessons per day is very effective and enjoyable for beginners. You still need extra time by yourself to memorize the vocabulary of the day.
In a small group you’ll also have more opportunities to speak and receive individual feedback from your teacher.

If you’ve never studied Greek before, we strongly recommend learning the Greek alphabet in advance. Knowing how to read Greek letters will help you follow the lessons more easily and allow you to focus more on speaking and understanding the language. If possible, we encourage you to prepare enough to join a Beginners 1 group rather than starting completely from zero.

Our online Greek Alphabet Course is an easy way to get started from home, at your own pace.
