First time in Nafplion: (at least) 7 places to visit
Nafplion is a beautiful and timeless city with pedestrian streets, museums, shops, restaurants, cafes and a beach. In case you only have a few days, below you will find suggestions as to some places in and around Nafplion that are definitely worth a visit. Many of these places can be also visited during the afternoon or evenings, so combining Greek lessons in the morning with sightseeing in the afternoon is ideal for a language holiday.
Syntagma Square
The main square, called “Syntagma” (Constitution) Square, is paved in marble and surrounded by historical buildings. The pedestrian streets around the square are filled with people casually strolling among the souvenir shops, jewellery stores, bakeries, and the many bars and restaurants.
Palamidi Fortress
From the square and the school where your OMILO course takes place, you can see the Palamidi Fortress, built during the 2nd Venetian Period (1686 – 1715). The fortress is 216 meters high. Visitors can either take the road up the hill or the 999 stone steps to the top.
Sidewalk
From Syntagma square, you can walk to a second big square at the waterfront and wander along the sidewalk along the harbor. It is a calm and pleasant place where people watch the sunset or just enjoy the sea breeze.

Bourtzi
The fortress in the middle of the harbour is called the Bourtzi and during the summer it can be visited by boat. At various periods it has been a prison or a hotel and is currently a musical venue for the Nafplion Music Festival, which is held in June and features Greek as well as international performers.
Beach
The town beach is just around the other side of the Akronafplia and at 300 meters from the Omilo school. Another very nice, long sandy beach is Karathona, at 2 km from Nafplion. A beautiful path along the coast, only for pedestrians, connects the town with Karathona beach (however, by another road, it is also reachable by car or taxi).
The Acronafplia
The Acronafplia is the oldest part of the city. This was in fact the city up until the arrival of the Venetians and the Franks in the 13th Century. Behind Acronafplia, there is a beautiful paved path with a spectacular view of the coast.
Around Nafplion
When you go out of the city, there are many interesting archaeological sites to explore: the entire Argolis peninsula, Mycenae, Epidaurus, Argos, Nemea and Corinth can be reached by using local transportation, taking guided tours or renting a car.
