Our Students

Students come to Omilo from countries all over the world (80% from Europe), creating an interesting, friendly, open-minded and international atmosphere. All adults interested in the Greek language and culture are welcome, regardless of age, nationality or educational background.

The intensive one-and-two-week group courses are very popular among students of 25+ years of age, including seniors, of every nationality and language level. Most of our students have already started studying Greek at various levels in their home countries and come to Omilo to focus on speaking and understanding spoken Greek while exploring the “real Greece” during the various cultural activities that are on offer. They love Greece and are eager to learn to communicate with the locals while enjoying their holidays and making friends from all over the world.

Adults of any age often book a one-on-one course in Greece or share a private lesson with a friend at a time that is convenient for them. They also might choose a private course if the dates of the group courses are not convenient, if they want to learn at their own pace, or simply wish to focus on a particular topic of their choice.

Children and teenagers younger than 18 years old are also welcome for private lessons during the summer intensive courses held in Athens as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Many Omilo students decide to book a Skype course after their language holiday in Greece so that they can keep practicing what they have learned until the next time they can return to Greece. Students who do not have the option of traveling to Greece regularly but have contact with Greeks in their home country love the option of Skype lessons.

15 Reasons Why Our Students Decide to Learn Greek!

We have heard so many reasons why our students want to learn Greek: more than we ever could have imagined when we founded Omilo 20 years ago! Here are the 15 most common reasons!

People who travel to Greece

  • I love Greece and go to Greece every year on holiday.
  • We own a summer house in Greece and want to learn the language in order to communicate with our neighbors.
  • We travel every year to a different country and take a language course beforehand so that we are equipped to communicate in a basic way with the locals.

People who want to connect

  • I have Greek roots, or my partner does, and want to communicate with this wonderful Greek family in their own language.
  • I have made many friends in Greece during various holidays and would be happy if I could converse with them a bit in Greek.
  • Our daughter married a Greek, and we would like to be able to speak with her parents-in-law.

People who love Greek culture

  • I am a teacher of Ancient Greek, and I would love to learn to speak modern Greek.
  • I love Greek music, sing in a Greek choir in my city, and would love to understand the lyrics or improve my pronunciation
  • I am very interested in Greek philosophy and would like to learn more about the Greek mentality (and language is a fantastic window into a culture).
  • I love Greek dancing, and learning Greek at the same time makes the whole experience feel even more authentic!

People who want an adventure

  • I am getting older … learning and memorizing new things keeps me young.
  • I am looking for something fun, interesting and challenging enough to get me out of my comfort zone!

And people who need it!

  • I live in Greece, and my life would be so much nicer if I could understand Greek.
  • I would like to get the Certificate in the Greek language so that it will be easier to find a job that has to do with Greece. In the meantime, studying the language will me motivated to keep at it!
  • My boyfriend only speaks Greek! I need a crash course!

We are sure there are still many more reasons why you want to learn to speak Greek, and we are looking forward to helping you to achieve your dream!
