Do you like Greek music? Σας αρέσει η ελληνική μουσική;
Maybe this is not an easy question to answer, since there are so many different genres of Greek songs and music.
Ίσως να μην είναι τόσο εύκολο να απαντήσετε σε αυτή την ερώτηση, αφού υπάρχουν πολλά είδη ελληνικής μουσικής.
You might like one particular genre, like Rembetiko, Pop, Rock, but maybe not another genre like Laika, Entechna…?
So a better question might be;
Which genre of Greek Music do you like? Or, do you like Greek entechna songs ?
But with those questions, many non-Greeks will not be able to answer them, since they do not know the names or the difference between the various musical genres, neither the time-period that particular music was created in Greece.
Πολύ πιθανό να σας αρέσει ένα συγκεκριμένο είδος, όπως το ρεμπέτικο, η ποπ ή η ροκ μουσική και να μη σας αρέσει κάποιο άλλο είδος, όπως το λαϊκό και το έντεχνο τραγούδι. Επομένως, καλύτερη θα ήταν η ερώτηση: Ποιο είδος ελληνικής μουσικής σας αρέσει; Για παράδειγμα, σας αρέσει το έντεχνο τραγούδι;
Αυτή είναι μια ερώτηση, στην οποία πολλοί Έλληνες δεν μπορούν να απαντήσουν, αφού δεν ξέρουν τα ονόματα ή τη διαφορά ανάμεσα στα διάφορα μουσικά είδη, ούτε την ακριβή χρονική περίοδο κατά την οποία το κάθε είδος αναπτύχθηκε στην Ελλάδα.
Therefore, many non-Greeks loving Greek music usually refer much more to the name of a singer or song, their favorite Greek singer(s), or favorite songs.
Many times they have bought or downloaded music from particular Greek singers, or even better, have seen them in a live concert abroad or in Greece.
Έτσι, πολλοί άνθρωποι του εξωτερικού που αγαπούν την ελληνική μουσική θα αναφερθούν περισσότερο στο όνομα ενός τραγουδιστή ή ενός τραγουδιού, στους αγαπημένους τους Έλληνες τραγουδιστές ή στα αγαπημένα τους τραγούδια. Πολλές φορές έχουν κατεβάσει ή αγοράσει μουσική συγκεκριμένων Ελλήνων τραγουδιστών ή, ακόμα καλύτερα, τους έχουν δει σε live συναυλίες στο εξωτερικό ή στην Ελλάδα.
Also, many Omilo students started learning Greek, because they are crazy about a particular singer.
Επιπλέον, πολλοί μαθητές του Ομιλώ ξεκίνησαν να μαθαίνουν Ελληνικά, επειδή «τρελαίνονται» με έναν συγκεκριμένο τραγουδιστή.
And this is for sure also the case with singer George Dalaras. ;-
Dalaras has a huge fan club within Greece, as well as abroad. He also performed many concerts out of Greece.
Αυτό ακριβώς συμβαίνει με τον τραγουδιστή Γιώργο Νταλάρα! Ο Νταλάρας έχει πολύ μεγάλο fan club όχι μόνο στην Ελλάδα, αλλά και στο εξωτερικό.
Επίσης, έχει κάνει πολλές συναυλίες εκτός Ελλάδας.
Who is George Dalaras? Ποιος είναι ο Γιώργος Νταλάρας;
Dalaras is a Greek musician and singer of international fame. He was born in Piraeus in 1949 and is widely considered among the most prominent figures of Greek contemporary music, with more than 70 personal albums and with sales of more than 15 million records to date. Also, his father, Loukas Daralas, (difference in surname spelling), was a singer of rembetika music.
Ο Νταλάρας είναι Έλληνας μουσικός και τραγουδιστής διεθνούς φήμης. Γεννήθηκε στον Πειραιά το 1949 και θεωρείται μια από τις πιο εξέχουσες μορφές της ελληνικής σύγχρονης μουσικής, με περισσότερα από 70 προσωπικά άλμπουμ και με πωλήσεις άνω των 15 εκατομμυρίων δίσκων μέχρι σήμερα. Επίσης, ο πατέρας του, Λουκάς Νταράλας (υπάρχει διαφορά στο επώνυμο), ήταν τραγουδιστής του ρεμπέτικου τραγουδιού.
Dalaras has sung songs of most Greek musical genres, solo as well as in combination with many other Greek, and foreign singers.
So if a person mentions he/she likes the music Dalaras is singing, then this is again not very helpful 🙂 He more or less performed it „all“!
Of course, it is possible to mention that you love the ‚voice‘ of Dalaras, since he has indeed an amazing and recognizable voice, and is able to sing songs of any genre.
Ο Νταλάρας έχει τραγουδήσει τραγούδια από τα περισσότερα είδη ελληνικής μουσικής, είτε μόνος του είτε σε συνεργασία με πολλούς άλλους Έλληνες και ξένους τραγουδιστές. Οπότε, δεν είναι πολύ βοηθητικό, αν κάποιος πει ότι του αρέσει η μουσική στα τραγούδια του Νταλάρα. 😊 Ούτε λίγο ούτε πολύ, ο Νταλάρας έχει τραγουδήσει τα πάντα! Φυσικά, μπορεί κανείς να αναφέρει ότι λατρεύει τη φωνή του Νταλάρα, καθώς πραγματικά έχει μια υπέροχη και αναγνωρίσιμη φωνή και μπορεί να τραγουδήσει τραγούδια κάθε είδους.

This song is considered „entechna music“ and it was used for the Greek movie „Christmas Tango“/ Το τανγκό των Χριστουγέννων

What is Entechno music? Τι είναι το Έντεχνο τραγούδι;
The early 1960s is the official starting point of a new genre of music in Greece, which combines orchestral music with poetry for the first time and is called Entechno.
Entechno music combines elements of Greek Laika songs with poetry, making Greek poetry accessible to all social classes.
Στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 1960 βρίσκεται η αρχή ενός νέου μουσικού είδους στην Ελλάδα. Το είδος αυτό συνδυάζει για πρώτη φορά την ορχηστρική μουσική με την ποίηση και ονομάζεται Έντεχνο. Το Έντεχνο τραγούδι συνδυάζει για πρώτη φορά στοιχεία του ελληνικού λαϊκού τραγουδιού με την ποίηση, κάτι που έκανε την ελληνική ποίηση προσβάσιμη σε όλες τις κοινωνικές τάξεις.
