The very first Christmas tree in Greece was introduced in 1833 by King Otto of Bavaria. Today, of course, Christmas trees are everywhere — but Greece has its own beautiful symbol too: the Christmas boat.

Especially on the islands, families traditionally decorated a small boat to honor the country’s deep connection to the sea.
