\nWe here present you… Eleftheria Arvanitaki! A renowned Greek singer with a career that spans four decades and is a strong favorite among Omilo students. Let\u2019s learn more about her life and work!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Arvanitaki’s career path<\/h2>\n

Arvanitaki started singing professionally in 1980 as the lead singer of the group \u039f\u03c0\u03b9\u03c3\u03b8\u03bf\u03b4\u03c1\u03bf\u03bc\u03b9\u03ba\u03ae \u039a\u03bf\u03bc\u03c0\u03b1\u03bd\u03af\u03b1<\/em> (Opisthodromiki Compania, en. Backwards Company<\/em>). Her voice immediately stood out in the Geek music scene, and she left the band in 1984-5 to pursue a solo career. Ever since she has collaborated with important Greek composers and songwriters as well as artists from all over the world, including the Greek actor and composer Vagelis Germanos, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Manos Hatzidakis, Lina Nikolakopoulou, Stamatis Spanoudakis, the Portuguese Dulce Pontes, the Spanish Amaral and Carlos Nunez, the Armenians Ara Dinkjian and Arto Tuncboyacian, and the academy award-winning composer Philip Glass.<\/p>\n

Besides Greece, she has toured around the world to participate in festivals and events as well as solo performances. In 2004, she sang at the Closing Ceremony of the Athens Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

Some of her most well-known songs include Den Xero Poso S\u2019Agapo, Dinata, To Kokkino Foustani, Ta Kormia kai ta Machairia, Thelo Konta Sou Na Meino, Tis Kalinichtas ta Filia, Mes Tou Aigaiou Ta Nera,…<\/em><\/p>\n

For the song \u00ab\u00a0Makria Apo Tin Trikymia\u00a0\u00bb,\u00a0 its<\/em> video clip was filmed on Syros island, in an area of Hermoupolis,\u00a0 called Vaporia \u2013 this is a location we often visit, during the Omilo Greek Language courses on Syros island,<\/a>\u00a0 since it\u2019s particularly popular among our students.
