Those two verbs are conjugated differently, since they belong to different verb categories.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Verb confusion!<\/h2>\n<p>The verb \u00ab\u03c0\u03af\u03bd\u03c9\u00bb belongs to the category of verbs that you learn to conjugate from your first lessons in Greek.<br \/>\nAlso other very common verbs, as \u00ab\u03ad\u03c7\u03c9\u00bb (to have), \u00ab\u03ba\u03ac\u03bd\u03c9\u00bb (to do\/make), \u00bb \u03c0\u03b1\u03af\u03c1\u03bd\u03c9\u00bb (to take) and \u00ab\u03b8\u03ad\u03bb\u03c9\u00bb (to want) belong to the same group of verbs and are conjugated the same way in the present tense.<br \/>\nWhen you master to conjugate those verbs, then\u00a0 you normally will be also introduced to another group of verbs ending in Present in \u2013\u03ac\u03c9\/\u2013\u03ce.<br \/>\nFor example, \u2018\u03bc\u03b9\u03bb\u03ac\u03c9 or \u03bc\u03b9\u03bb\u03ce\u2019 (= to speak) is a classic example of this group as students usually know from the beginning phrases such as;<br \/>\n\u2018\u039c\u03b9\u03bb\u03ac\u03c2 \/ \u039c\u03b9\u03bb\u03ac\u03c4\u03b5 \u03b5\u03bb\u03bb\u03b7\u03bd\u03b9\u03ba\u03ac;\u2019 (= Do you speak Greek?) or also\u00a0 \u2018\u0394\u03b5 \u03bc\u03b9\u03bb\u03ac\u03c9 \u03b5\u03bb\u03bb\u03b7\u03bd\u03b9\u03ba\u03ac!\u2019 (= I don\u2019t speak Greek).<br \/>\nWhen more examples of this verb-group are needed, the verb \u2018\u03c0\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd\u03ac\u03c9 or \u03c0\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd\u03ce\u2019 (= to be hungry) makes its appearance in class. And chaos is on its way!<\/p>\n<p>There is no doubt that (\u2018\u03c0\u03af\u03bd\u03c9\u2019\u00a0 to drink) and \u2018\u03c0\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd\u03ce\u2019 (to be hungry) are two of the most commonly confused words in Greek since they sound so similar.<\/p>\n<p>You stress the wrong syllable and the person you are talking to might burst out laughing!<br \/>\nAfter introducing the students to these two verbs, teachers always expect phrases such as:<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u0394\u03b5\u03bd \u03c0\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd\u03ce \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c3\u03af\u2019 (= I am not hungry wine) <strong>instead of \u2018\u0394\u03b5\u03bd \u03c0\u03af\u03bd\u03c9 \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c3\u03af\u2019<\/strong> (= I don\u2019t drink wine)<br \/>\nor<br \/>\n\u2018\u03a0\u03af\u03bd\u03c9. \u03a0\u03ac\u03bc\u03b5 \u03c3\u03c4\u03b7\u03bd \u03c4\u03b1\u03b2\u03ad\u03c1\u03bd\u03b1;\u2019 (= I drink. Shall we go to the tavern?) <strong>instead of the right \u2018\u03a0\u03b5\u03b9\u03bd\u03ce. \u03a0\u03ac\u03bc\u03b5 \u03c3\u03c4\u03b7\u03bd \u03c4\u03b1\u03b2\u03ad\u03c1\u03bd\u03b1;\u2019<\/strong> (= I am hungry.
