One Week Greek Course in Hermoupolis, Syros island
If you want to improve your Greek communication skills as well as deepen your knowledge of grammar, while enjoying a fantastic cultural holiday, a one-week intensive course in Hermoupolis, the capital of the island of Syros, is the perfect choice!
You will improve your Greek language skills at your level, with plenty of time left over for sightseeing and exploring Hermoupolis town, as well as for swimming in the Aegean sea, and discovering the island of Syros. Our interactive methods of teaching are made to satisfy communication needs for every level.
During the afternoons, Omilo also offers several free activities, during which you learn more about the “real Greece” and Greek culture. Hermoupolis, is known for its rich history and the Aegean festival as well as other festivals and rembetico music. Of course, you can also explore the entire island and its beaches, by taking the local bus.
On the indicated arrival date (Wednesday 25/9/2019), the Omilo team will welcome you at 19.00 in the Electra Hotel, in the town of Hermoupolis (Vaporia area). You will be introduced to the teachers and other participants, and the program will be explained as well as all the options for eventual performances in Hermoupolis. At around 20.00 all participants are invited to enjoy a tavern meal in a local Greek tavern in Hermoupolis; this is included in the course price. It is the perfect moment to get to know the other participants, talk to the teachers, taste Greek food and start communicating in Greek.
The following day your Greek classes begin. On the first day of the course, you will be asked to take a brief placement test which will help the team decide which class is best for you. The course materials will be given to you in class and are included in the price.
You will have six days of classes. On the last course day, your course will finish at 14.00. In addition to the intensive Greek classes in the morning, on offer are various social and cultural activities during the afternoons (free of charge), during which you can also practice your Greek communication skills.

In addition, you have the possibility to attend a concert and/or performance (extra charge) during the Syros festivals, depending upon the availability during that week.
Your accommodation will be booked in the Electra Syros Boutique Hotel This hotel is located in the Vaporia area, 300 m from central Ermoupolis in Syros, and a 1-minute walk from the beach. Electra Syros Boutique Hotel features a roof garden overlooking the Aegean Sea. It offers breakfast and free private parking.
Rooms at Electra Syros Boutique Hotel have air conditioning and a minibar. Each is equipped with a TV and a radio. All units have balconies, some with sea views (extra charge).
Guests can relax with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee or tea at the rooftop garden, enjoying stunning views of the scenic port and town. Taverns, bars and cafés are within a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
Extra Options for the hotel accommodation
• If you prefer a single /double room with sea view, the additional cost is 105 euro (for 6 nights). • If you share a double room (city view) with your friend/partner, who also follows the course, the price is 1185 euro/person. • If you share a double room (city view) with your friend/partner, who does not follow the course, the price is 1670 euro. Your friend/partner will also have breakfast in the hotel and can join the afternoon activities and dinners with the Omilo team and students.
The course is intended for adults of 35+ years of age, including seniors, of every nationality and language level. The maximum number of students in this course is 15.
Courses are never canceled.
For the Beginners 2, Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2 Levels:
Teaching times: between 10.00 – 14.00
Small classes, maximum 4 students per class/language level
4 hours/day when there are 3 or max. 4 students per language level 3 hours/day when there are 2 students per language level 2 hours/day when there is 1 student in a language level for the same course fee
For the Beginner 1 and Advanced Levels: maximum 2 students/class
Teaching times: between 15.00 and 18.00
3 hours/day (total of 18 hours) when there are 2 students per language level 2 hours/day (total of 12 hours) when there is 1 student in a language level for the same course fee
There are six language levels possible (the average amount of language levels per course is between four and six)
If you want to learn more about what each language level means, please visit the Language Level Page. When registering for a course, you are asked to indicate your level and give us some extra information about the materials you have used, how many courses you have already taken, etc. However, since the participants speak various languages, have used different course materials in their countries or have studied with different teaching methods, we will ask you to take a brief placement test on the first day of the course so that we can determine the class that is best suited to your needs.
Courses take place between 10:00 and 14:00 and 15.00-18.00 (depending of your level)
There will be a break of 30 minutes every day
At least 4 afternoon activities are offered. Most of the activities last from 1,5 to 3 hours.

Note about registration : When filling out the registration form, there is no option to choose “Hotel Electra” in the accommodation section. However, it is the only possibility for this course. Therefore, do not “tick” any accommodation, but just write within “the comments area” of the registration form, which kind of room you would like to book in the Electra. (city view, sea view, single, double…) If you would prefer to have extra days of accommodation before or after the course, you can also write it in the “comments section” of your registration form.
